Each and every one of us has a dream or many dreams, ones that we used to think about right before we go to sleep since the youngest age, and others that we had later in our lives.
It all started out when my interest in stars and the outer space peeked, I was 5yo and all I knew was that I had to do well in school so that I can be an astronaut, funny how I had no fear of the unknown world, I was little yet unconsciously brave.
Time passed and my interests kept changing, I wanted to be a pilot, then an architect, then interior architect, until I had to follow what I thought was the best academic path, as I was thought that there was no other option but to succeed in life. When you live in Morocco, you follow the trend, you’re aping everyone else, and in that you lose your interest in your passion, you end up unsurprisingly miserable and sometimes doing just ok, but definitely far from the happy person that you imagined you would be when you followed all the dos and don’ts.
Well, here’s a thing, I am not settling for “just ok”, today my passion is fashion, it is the only thing that gets me going, that allows me to be creative, to dream big, it is basically the only thing that sets me free.
I love designing clothes, and I’ve always heard “Go big or go home”, but I have to say, that you don’t need to always go big to avoid going back home. You can also live your dream, starting little by little, it would eventually lead to something BIG, and that day, you will be proud to go back home and tell your parents that you did something different and succeeded in life.
Today I am a Project Manager in a big company, although the beginning of this post may have sounded a bit dramatic, I am not unhappy about my job, I am not miserable at all, I was doing just ok before I started designing my own clothes, now I can’t be any happier.
If I have to put some Slach Tips, I would say:
1-Don’t settle for average
2-Dream BIG and start little, it will lead to something worth being patient for
3-Find yourself a passion and get 100% involved in it.
As of today, I don’t have my own brand, but I design some of my own clothes, and I am very happy to share this with you because this is what motivates me, what makes me proud and what keeps me dreaming right before I go to sleep. Here is one of my designs.
Now I dream of the day I will be back home saying “Mama! I made it as a project manager, and I made it as a fashion designer” …
